Dr. Stuart Moss Joins FORECON!

Dr. Stuart Alan Moss

FORECON is very pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Stuart Alan Moss as our Regional Office Manager for the company’s Oak Hill, West Virginia office.  In this position, Stuart will direct and co-ordinate the Oak Hill office in land management and consulting operations including communications between clients and our company and will support our staff in accomplishing the growing workload we are experiencing there.

Actually born and raised in Oak Hill, WV, Dr. Moss is a well-seasoned and accomplished forester, graduating with a Ph. D. in Forest Resource Science from West Virginia University and an MBA from Georgia College & State University.   He has served as an Assistant Professor of Forest Management for eleven years at WVU in Morgantown, WV, and more recently has served in a similar position at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College located in Tifton, Georgia.  In his tenure as a professor, Stuart has taught a variety of courses including Forest Mensuration, Forest Measurements & Mapping, Timber Management, Advanced Silviculture, Forest Finance, Quantitative Methods, Dendrology, Natural Resource Conservation, Forestry Consulting, Wood Procurement & Grading, and Forest Investment & Valuation.   He has developed timber inventory analysis and reporting software, UTM coordinate analysis software, conducted research in timber inventory methodology, and published a variety of research papers for the forestry community.

Dr. Moss also has a deep hands-on background in field forestry, serving as a Vice President, Branch Manager, Corporate Manager and Large Client Coordinator for F&W Forestry Services over a ten-year period, where he provided a full range of forest management, timber sale and appraisal services for private landowners in central Georgia.  In his roles with F&W, he led large-scale forest inventory projects and performed environmental site assessments for timberland acquisitions throughout the southern U.S. and was responsible for management and research activities for several timberland investment management organizations.

He is a member of the Association of Consulting Foresters (ACF), the Society of American Foresters (SAF), Xi Sigma Pi National Forestry Honor Society, and is an American Tree Farm System Qualified Inspector.  He is a Registered Forester in the State of Georgia and will be renewing his WV Registered Professional Forester status.  He has been involved with several forestry steering groups and committees in West Virginia and Georgia. Stuart, his wife Elizabeth, and their two sons, Ethan (age 3) and Romeo (age 3 months) will be moving to the Oak Hill, WV area in December.

Stuart is a very knowledgeable, personable and experienced professional that we are extremely happy to welcome to the FORECON family.  We know he will add a lot to the depth of expertise here at FORECON, and we are excited to offer his skills, knowledge, and passion for sound, responsible forest management to our clients.
