Fall color already? Really?
Yup, August 10th.
Take-away: beautiful autumn color and the conclusion of the growing season commences earlier in the northern stretches of our temperate hardwood forests. Keep in mind, the summer days are much longer in the upper reaches of Minnesota and the U.P., as compared to the summer-day-length in Tennessee. Granted, the southern Appalachians have many more “growing days” than the northern extremes of our U.S. hardwood forests. But, up here, the summer days are longer, and, the summer season is shorter – short enough to start its annual megaflora talent show in the second week of August.
