“From little acorns, might oaks grow”
We are very happy to announce that an acorn planted by Curtis H. Bauer on July 1, 1954 continues to grow today. Sixty years ago, Curt started our predecessor business: “C.H. Bauer, Consulting Forester” in Jamestown, New York, paving the way for what FORECON has become today. Known for his expert forestry skills and business acumen, Curt grew his business from one employee (himself), to many, and from one office in Jamestown, New York to multiple offices throughout the Northeast. This year we celebrate FORECON, Inc.’s 60th anniversary!
The company was officially incorporated in December 1973 and given its current name, FORECON, an acronym for its primary services dealing within the disciplines of
- FOrestry
- Recreation
- Ecology
- CONservation
During this time FORECON continued to expand its forestry and natural resource consulting presence in the Northeast while adding real estate sales and timberland appraisal services to its list of forestry-related services. Curt retired in 1991 and sold the company to several employees, two of whom (Ron Johnson and John Gifford) still own the company today. Curt remained on as our most senior forestry consultant, lending his invaluable experience and wisdom to the business as we continued to grow.
In the mid-nineties, opportunities came up to expand the company’s services and use of technology by working for Timber Investment Management Organizations (TIMOs) and Institutional Investors who saw promise and opportunity in the valuable hardwood timber resource found within in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Their interests in the forests in our region allowed the company to broaden its reach and expand our forestry services, allowing us to open satellite offices throughout New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Large scale timber management became one of the company’s core services and specialties, while working for the small non-industrial private forest landowner remained (and remains to this day) a major foundation of the company.
Over the years we have had the pleasure of working with thousands of clients throughout most of the Eastern United States, providing valuable solutions to a variety of forestry management and environmental projects. Though our primary operating area is in the northern hardwood regions east of the Mississippi, we have also provided consulting services nation-wide and overseas. We truly appreciate our clients, past and present, for trusting us with the stewardship of their valuable resources over the last sixty years; we couldn’t have come this far and been able to grow from that acorn to a mature oak without you. We certainly look forward to continuing our relationships and building new ones long into the future!
