Forester Friday
Glen Underwood is one of FORECON’s Forest Technicians and is based out of the Cortland, New York office. His responsibilities include providing services to private landowners enrolled in New York’s “480a” program and institutional forestland investors, as well as providing herbicide and invasive species control.
Before coming to FORECON, Glen graduated from SUNY – ESF (State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry) Ranger School with an A.A.S. in Environmental and Natural Resource Conservation in 2016, and from SUNY – ESF with a B.S. in Natural Resource Management. He was also a wildlife intern for NYSDEC Region 7 where he captured and relocated nuisance black bears and even captured eastern rattlesnakes and used GPS chips to track their travel. Glen started working for FORECON in 2018 as a summer intern on the herbicide crew and it was clear after his first stint that he would become an integral member of the Cortland office.
As one of the licensed pesticide applicators in our Cortland office Glen spends much of his summer (early June – late September) working with a mix of full time employees as well as a large crew of summer interns to treat and control undesirable and invasive species on state lands as part of NYSDEC timber sales programs, as well as on private lands to help landowners effectively manage their woodlots for long term growth. Outside of the summer months Glen is the “go – to” for the field crew when it comes to 480a services (a real property tax law which can save landowners significant money on their taxes by managing their forest), private timber sales and working on TIMO/industrial lands from the Adirondacks to Central Pennsylvania.
While Glen is off the clock, he is an avid outdoorsman, spending weekends in the Adirondack or Catskill Mountains hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking, canoeing and camping with his girlfriend Teresa. He also spends many nights in the summer after a full day of work in the woods, helping out on his family farm in Skaneateles even on the hottest days of the summer. In the fall and winter season you can find Glen chasing deer on his family’s property and helping out with his “in-laws” maple syrup operation.
We truly appreciate the positive attitude Glen constantly carries with him, regardless of the situation/circumstance. We are very fortunate to have him on the team here at FORECON! Please reach out to our Cortland, NY office if you have any questions about timber, forest management or timber valuations at (607) 753-3113.
