Why Do Foresters Use Stump Marks?

Whether a given tree is intended for retention during a scheduled harvest event – or marked for removal – once a tree is cut, the stump is all that remains. Therefore, we use a stump mark with special paint, strategically placed in a low, protected location, as a valuable forest resource security measure to protect our landowner clients, so we can detect the rare instance when an unintended tree is cut. This is only one part of a larger forest security system we use to protect and conserve our landowner clients’ valuable natural resources.
